Geysers are a special phenomenon among other thermal springs. Geysers are as beautiful as rare. Larger geysers are known only in Iceland, the USA and in New Zealand; there are smaller ones in Japan and Tibet. But the beauty and dignity of a number of geysers situated on the restricted area of the valley make the place unique on a world-wide scale. It takes a bit over an hour to reach the Valley by helicopter and over a week to get there on foot from the nearest village. The flight is impressive, too as one can always watch many volcanoes of the eastern Kamchatka. The best known of them are Zhupanovsky, Karymsky, Maly Semyachik. The valley of Shumnaya river welcomes you with abrupt banks and foamy strips of waterfalls. Geysers outstretch along Geysernaya river - an inflow of Shumnaya river - within a few kilometers. The Valley of Geysers is situated inside the territory of Kronotsky State Biosphere Preserve . The nature protecting regime, remoteness of the Valley as well as the fact it was first discovered only in 1941, have kept it till the present time in almost primeval condition. Human influence is limited with wooden walkways laid in a small part of the Valley for holding excursions and a little hotel for visitors.
